How does Musicmetric work

We use dozens of servers to crawl the web continuously. We use data and text mining techniques to measure the buzz and any mentions your artists are getting. We use machine learning techniques to measure sentiment and to gauge opinions. We use statistical analysis to model how trends are changing and we use a lot of expertise to deliver a fully featured analytics package.

What if you’ve missed something?

If you find something that we are not tracking, but feel that we should – maybe your artists, website or service, then please contact us at info@musicmetric.com to give your suggestions. We’ll be happy to add it to our tracking if possible.

Other languages?

Currently our text mining techniques only cover English speaking content. We are working on expanding this to some European languages and are aiming to add this by mid 2010. If you have any suggestions for a language you feel should be covered then please email us at info@musicmetric.com and we’ll be happy to investigate.

You’re not tracking my artist!

If you are an artist, or know of one we have somehow missed in our database then please email us ASAP so we can add your details to get tracking. Don’t worry, nothing will be missed – whenever we add a new artist we will re-scan our archive of pages to generate the relevant data. Please bear in mind that this process takes up to 24 hours due to the size of our archive.

You’ve missed my website!

If it seems like we’re not following your website, and you’d like us to add it to our archive then please email us at support@musicmetric.com so we can add it as soon as possible.

Stop crawling my website!

If you do not want our crawlers to index your website, please send an email to support@musicmetric.com or edit your robots.txt file to stop the relevant areas of your website from being crawled.

How up to date are you?

Our current infrastructure can handle about 280,000 new pages per hour. This includes:

  • Downloading
  • Indexing
  • Extracting artist mentions
  • Sentiment analysis
  • Extracting opinions
  • Calculating buzz

The usual update rate for data within our client is one hour, but some data sources can update more or less frequently to this.
