Fans, plays, torrents and web buzz for artists performing at SXSW 2012 compared to 2011

After the success of last years Highest Risers of SXSW infographic, this year we decided to take our reporting to the next level. SXSW has historically been about the launching and promotion of new talent and our 2012 infographic illustrates the most interesting and diverse trends from across the SXSW festival. Looking at where the festival stands in the run up tells a compelling story about the emerging artist scene and the kinds of bands that are capturing the imagination of fans all over the world and web.

It is very interesting to note what a truly global appeal the festival has when you look at the artist fan locations and torrent activity. We were impressed at just how many nationalities and genres are present in the top buzzed and fastest growing artists. Britain’s Halifax and York are represented by Ed Sheeran and Asking Alexandria respectively, and Belgium got a look in with Milow. SXSW being a US festival has not stopped a New Zealander and Canadian taking the top spots for fastest growth and top web buzz respectively, so it will be very interesting to see how the acts are received stateside and we’ll be following up with some impact analysis when the parties are over and the dust has settled at the end of next month.
